The Christmas dress gets photographed more than anything else she wears all year. It appears in the card, on the stairs on Christmas morning, and at every party in between. It is worth getting right.
Girls Christmas dresses with real sparkle, no itch
Our toddler and girls Christmas dresses are cut in deep red, burgundy, navy and black tulle, scattered with gold and silver stars and crescent moons that catch the light in every photograph, with silver sequins and ice blue for the girl who would rather be the sparkle in the room. The sequins sit on the surface of soft mesh, so she gets the shimmer without anything scratching her arms, and every dress goes in the washing machine when the chocolate inevitably happens. Sizes 2Y to 8Y.
Red, navy or silver?
Red is the traditional choice and photographs richly against greenery and candlelight; the Midnight Red with its gold crescent moons is the one we would put in the Christmas card, and the Celeste Wine Red, a shade deeper and tiered, suits a church service as well as the party after. The navy and black Stardust are the evening choice, their stars holding their own beside candlelight. For New Year's Eve and the parties that run into January, the Periwinkle Silver and the Glacier Ice Blue carry on sparkling long after the tree comes down.
Dressed for the whole season, not one dinner
A good Christmas dress earns its price across a dozen wears: the school concert, two family dinners, the neighbours' party, the photographs. Ours are built for that schedule, with relaxed pull on shapes, full linings and tulle that keeps its volume wash after wash. Tights underneath for the cold, the coat left in the hall, and she is set from December through January.
Ordering in time for Christmas
Sizes at the popular end sell through from November, so order early and check her measurements against the size guide rather than her age. Between sizes, take the larger one; she will wear it again next winter.
